Fossicking anyone?

Gem Tree is about 70km off the Stuart Highway and apart from camping there, you can fossick for garnets and zircon in the surrounding area. This Splendid Fairy Wren was only one of the birds we found on our walk to the river bed to fossick for gemstones.

We were amazed at the amount of growth up here, we expected barren desert land and instead found grasses like this Spinifex and lots of new growth on the trees as well as wildflowers everywhere.

Beautiful gums along the dry river bed

Melanie found some nice stones that probably aren't worth all that much, but will be a nice memory of her trip.
