How lucky are we!
Either there are lots and lots of wonderful camp sites waiting for us out there, or we have been lucky enough to find the best one on our first night away. We left home rather late and after negotiating the city traffic, it was well into the afternoon when we reached Geelong. We decided to keep going, and try to reach Colac, so it was approaching dusk by the time we found Meredith Park on the shores of Lake Colac. We were blown away by the beautiful and peaceful spot we found there, with swans gliding over the glassy surface of the lake and the sun sliding down with a golden glow. Meredith Park is a free camp and there were a few other campers, but few enough that everyone had their own private space. Another bonus was fireplaces dotted about, and a short walk provided enough firewood for a few hours of cosy firelight. What a great way to start our trip.
